The 2025 Kia K5 GT-Line continues Kia’s mission to make every other automaker’s lineup look utterly forgettable. With a face that’s all snarl and attitude, thanks to that aggressive "Tiger Nose" grille and those ridiculously cool, "Z" shaped LED daytime running lights, it's clear that with Kia, form follows function. The sleek, fastback roofline and sporty body kit on the GT-Line trim only further its cause, giving a sense of sport added to all of that syle. It's the kind of design that looks like it should cost twice as much, and frankly, how well the rest of the vehicle is…it should.
Under the hood, the K5 GT-Line comes equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Now, don't confuse this with the proper, hotrod GT, but don’t let it’s okay sounding specs distract you. Its the blend of this engine along with a true to God, old school, torque converter 8 speed Automatic that makes this GT Line perform much better than it should have any right to! No, it isn’t a ZF 8HP but it delivers enough tactility that you’re immediately grateful not have to suffer through the soul-sucking monotony of a continuously variable transmission like the Accord and Camry.
One of the best parts of the drivetrain, is the efficiency. The K5 GT-Line is shockingly efficient, it doesn’t consume fuel, it feels like it gently breathes it in! On the highway, we were getting close to 40 MPG! Bear in mind, this is a regular ole drivetrain. No fancy batteries here…just good ole fashioned ICE engineering at it’s finest. Around town, the frugality doesn’t stop either, getting around 30 MPG as well!
Driving the K5 GT-Line is a surprisingly decent affair. The steering is beautifully weighted, providing a level of confidence that completely missing from most of it’s competition. Seriously, Kia and Hyundai have steering feel completely and utterly nailed down! Other automakers either have steering that is so overboosted you could sneeze and change lane or so artificially heavy that it’s annoying rather than exhilarating. Adding to the steering feel is a suspension setup keeps the car composed over all surfaces and whatever bend you may encounter. No, it’s not a sports sedan but it won’t fall over on it’s side either, so think of it as a superb blend of comfort and dynamism. Poised is the optimal word here…poised.
Inside, Kia has decided to bless us with a cabin that actually makes sense. The driver-focused design is a breath of fresh air, centered around a sleek panoramic display that seamlessly integrates a digital gauge cluster and a crisp 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. The best part? They had the good sense to keep physical buttons for things that actually matter, like the climate control. So, you can change the temperature without accidentally turning on the heated seats. It's a rare and beautiful marriage of modern tech and common sense.
Of course, the K5 GT-Line's real party trick is its price. For under $30,000, you're getting a car that's loaded with features that other brands would charge you a kidney for. A sportish suspension, bigger wheels, and a full suite of safety tech all come standard, making it a bargain in a world of automotive upcharges. It's a car that gives you all the flash without having to sell your soul, which is a value proposition we can all appreciate.
Now, for the faults. While its styling is daring, it’s also undeniably polarizing. While the front end is impeccably stylish, the rear end looks like a sad clown to me, and it’s an image that is absolutely impossible to unsee. As for the drive, be prepared for an orchestra of road noise on the highway. I would like to blame the tires but the noise is so all consuming…it’s hard to blame it all on the black round things.
In summary, the 2025 Kia K5 GT-Line is a fantastic option for those who are tired of driving something that looks like it was designed by a beige-colored committee. Its bold styling, confident performance, and feature-packed interior make it a serious contender, and its price is a breath of fresh air.
